I just read an article about a 26 year old woman, who at 17 went to a party, got drunk and stupid, went to another friends house and stole some liquor from the garage. When confronted by the parent, she hit him in the neck with the bottle and they arrested her for burglary and aggravated battery. This is not the problem I have though. Now "17", she is hauled to Orient Rd jail, kept there for days, tried as an adult, once sentenced to 60 days in jail (Orint Rd). She is a Scholar in school, with a 4.8 GPA, Treasurer of the Honor Society, full blown scholarships and accepted to a highly acclaimed college. Her teachers struggle with the jail to bring her school work to her, so that she can maintain her status, allowing her to graduate with her class. Since being released from jail, she has been in no trouble, was forced to attend a community college, due to finances, she is married with children. Her dreams of becoming a Nuclear Biologist where crushed because she is a convicted felon, she can never hold a Professional License or Certification and she has fought with the system since, trying to have her case expunged so she can go on with her life. It has been two years since she first submitted the papers for pardoning but the wonderful government has "LOST" them or just has "NEVER RECEIVED THEM".
Later in the article, it is revealed that she had turned to drinking after the passing of her step father, with her mom struggling to support the famil on menial income, and numerous other struggles.
I feel for this young woman and can read between the lines of the article figuring out why she was so harshly punished, but it is due time she is given her pardon. There are hundreds of juvenile car theives, every day stealing 20, 30, 40 cars a week and they get slapped on the hand told never to do it a gain. Within a few weeks they are caught again, and nothing is done. Lets get real, where is fair and equal in this state. Punishment for the the crime, not life.

Comment on Cindys' post 11/25: First and formost, had I called the police for anyone, not knowing who they are you should have made them wait outside. If I were not in the position I am, I would not care if they were getting beat down to the ground. My family safety is the utmost importance n my residence. Secondly, if the cop was truly concerned and doing his job he would have ensured the victims safety, by either making an arrest or taking the victim to a shelter. And on the subject of a language barrier issue, try conversing daily with people who know little to no english, and when you tell them yo don't speak their language, they get pissed and start cursing at you in their language. It is very stressful, especially when you are willing to help these people, but can't do so until you find out what the problem really is.

Comment to Brents post on 11/1, The Return Policy: I find it rediculous that people will return merchandise to get their money back, because they want to go out and party or get cigarettes. But on the flip side, if you still have tags attached and your receipt, I don't see why you should not beable to return merchandise. Being int he job I am in, I have seen people literally walk into stores empty handed, walk around for a few minutes, then come up to the service counter and return an item they have picked up off the shelf. Then when I come in with a receipt, and the merchandise I "PAID" for, if I am beyond my "90 DAYS", I get told I can't return the merchandise. I don't agree with you that all sales should be final, but i do agree that people go nuts taking things back. i know of girl that bought a bassinet, used it until her baby grew out of it, then took it back for a full refund. She actually told me i should do the same. i just looked at her like she was crazy. But i still have my dumb bassinet. I don't ahve a newspaper for statistics but shopping over the holiday season. Can you imagine the number of purchases that are made and also the number of returns made. The stores around this time of year need to make new policies to stop people from returning almost everything they buy. People have loop holes for what they are doing. It might seem innocent when somebody returns something but there is a lady who does this at a string of Hallmark stores. She will buy stuff and return but she will still make money from points on a card and theres never a receipt. I say, forget store credit and not having receipts. All sales should be final whether or not the customer is happy with what they bought.

I'm not saying I'm for or against the war but we can all agree that a war is a horrible thing. Between the fighting and killing and loses, its not something any of us should ever, WANT to see, nor be involved with. Now here is a solution that I thought up in the car on the way home while I was singing some Kelly Clarkson and Back street Boys. This is what we do........ We don't need to use bombs and guns what we need to throw at them are..................... PLAYDOH and LEGOS.
Do you recall anyone saying f&@* you f*^%playdoh and damn the little Lego men. Never. Everyone loves playdoh and legos! We bomb them with legos and playdoh and then we go over and we offer them the little people and the wheels to make a car... and if they can play nice we will share our trees and windows and together we can build a giant Lego house and afterwards we can make fake playdoh food which we all did as a kid. (I just liked rolling it into a deformed strand of playdoh that I would swing around until it broke, or you would try to turn it in to a pretzel.). That was always fun too. Anyways I think this is a perfect example that childhood innocence is the best time of our lives. I think we should give it a shot. Who knowmaybeaby after all this fun, we would all be able to sit in a ginormes circle and bust out the ge-tar, and sing kum-bi-ah..Wouldn'tent that be just peachy?

Im going to go ahead and comment on Brent’s topic of privacy in cell phones... even though I’m a little bias. A cell phone is private property, just like mail, just like your house. There for, im not saying it should be illegal, but it just shouldn’t happen. that’s like passing a note in class n having the teacher pick it up and read it. That’s just not cool. But then again, like what Cindy said, you should never write something down, unless it would be ok for anyone to see it, i.e.: your boyfriend, your best friend, or even your best friends' boyfriend... so yeah... that’s just my opinions, n thanks Brent for picking a topic I could so easily write about.

So, about a month ago, a man knocks on my door while i am on the phone and yells call 911. So, immediately i dial 911. When the dispatcher asks me what the emergency was i realized i didn't know so i just explained what had happened and i went outside and asked this man what the problem was. He and his mother start yelling, one in english, one in spanish, that the guys sister-in-law is beating up the guys mother. So next thing i know the accused mother-in-law beater has my phone and is telling the dispatcher in spanish that there is no problem and then she hangs up. Ofcourse the dispatcher calls me back asks to talk to the accused and has a spanish speaking person to talk to her. By now a police man has arrived and for the next 3hrs. i had this lady and 3 policemen in my apartment. For the next 5 hrs after i had this lady in my apartment. Because the police officer felt bad for her and didn't want her to go back home with the accusers, he asked if she could stay with me. i didn't want her to but i said yes.
This brings up two topics language barriers and domestic abuse. Actually this could be considered elderly abuse if it had gone any further. In a case like this i feel bad for noone. i know for some people it is hard to leave abusive places maybe even impossible in those cases i feel bad.

Well Fran, i never really seen police in marked cars do much more than speed. I thought it a very simple easy to understand play. I caught some of the little things within the play but i also was surprised at some of them when i looked them up. Mostly like the cherry jar. i still think its a little funny. I think that the story was about Minnie Wright being treated so badly and finally standing up for herself. She must have figured no one would miss such a mean man anyway. I really think it's funny how a lot of women writers write stories like this. It makes me wonder if it makes life easier to live for them.

Here is another thing I would like some honest comments on. I will not take anything said personal, though it pertains to my profession. How many of you see marked police/sheriff vehicles violating traffic laws, and wish there was something you could do about it? I do not believe that I am above the low, by no means, but there seems to be a vast majority of individuals within the field of law enforcement, who think they are. There is a web site that is directed towards law enforcement, and in the past few days, I have read the most humiliating statements made by some of the people I work with, to the point that I find it embarrassing to admit that I work with them. Let me please have your thoughts.
Oh and by the way, if any of you heard of the deputy haveing 11 accidents over the course of her career, and yesterdays being one that could have been fatal, I don't find an excuse or acceptance to this either. She is a liability to the county, and the accidents she has are not held against her personal vehicle insurance.
What are your thoughts.

Topics for Writing: #5 I agree with the critics that Minnie Wright is the most important character in the play. It is very disheartening to know that a few individuals have made a name for all service members and US citizens as well. This behavior is what makes our allies and others dislike the US so much and then we wonder why it is that the foriegn countries attack us so viciously when they do. If you are guilty you are guilty, regardless where you are living. In my early service years, 3 Marines raped and killed another US Marine. They received life in a Japanese prison, because it was committed outside the base boundaries. Average life expectancy was 3 years for a foriegn to survive in a Japanese prison. I don't think they deserved that long. Where is this world headed with such violence and disregard for human life?

So what do you think about these pervs that continue to fall for the tricks of Datelines, "To Catch a Predator" YOu would think they would learn. I sometimes wonder if racism is starting to rise again. I mean i know that it will never die. i also know that it probably never was lessened. i think it was just hidden. Either way, i have heard and seen more racial comments in the last year than in the last ten years. I first thought maybe people are just getting more comfortable with other races but now i am starting to think that the comfort will lead to an uprising in racial tensions. It's scary to think about, especially in the world that we live in today where everyone is mixed. I have always loved plays and movies though. I never read or seen any of these plays. Not even Hamlet. I do intend to watch it though. I think that when covering plays we should be able to enjoy them by hearing them read. Now if it's within a small group or as a class, i think i would prefer the class just because for people that don't read too well or read slow they may not want to read and even if they do it might ruin the whole thing. I would like to hear a play read aloud by people that have the talent and the enthusiasm for it. I guess it really doesn't matter though, that's just my opinion. The reason i feel like that though, is because i lose interest and tend to get annoyed by slow readers. Man i must sound horrible. Well i guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

I don't know if this should be considered, but I am going to talk about cellphones and how they affect personal relationships. I skimmed through them and even reading some of the lines were strange. It's weird how they talk like Yoda in some plays and then other are normal. I like plays because they are like movies but with more emotion and probably better acting. There isn't any room for mistakes which is fun to watch for if you are at a boring play. The only one of these plays I have seen is the Glass Menagerie. It was ok, but it was interesting to see one guy play two parts. The mistakes were noticeable but the did a good job of recovering. There are so many you could teach plays. The best one that I think would work is probably assigning part for people to read in a circle. You could have people act it out but I wouldn't want to volunteer for that. Thankfully, I had already spoke to my 18 year old, and knew he was alive, but the fact that this very well could have been one of my own brought tears to my eyes. Unfortunately, many of those involved were acquantences to my children, and closer yet, one of the children in critical condition, lived right in my neighborhood. I could only reitterate to my kids the importance of attentiveness, when operating such a great piece of machinery, that we depend so much upon for transportation. To see those families on TV, who probably will never know the true answer as to why, I tried to put myself in their shoes. I don't know what my course of action would be if I ever where in their shoes, but I pray to god never to experience it.

Global News. My short story was s rose for emily, which i ended up coming around to and my author was William Faulkner. I really don't know what to write about him because i didn't read a whole lot of my books. i think we should have just done away with the reading blog this week since our essays were due and we didn't really have a reading assignment. I mean in class we were told the reading would take but a few minutes. How can i write 250 words on a few minutes of reading? So i'll just tell you what i did learn about the guy. I believe that they are both right in some ways. Nobody wants criminals walking the street with an ankle bracelet or walking around because the prsions are overcrowded. I wouldn't want any of them out either. You are serving the innocent and not the guilty but I disagree with Melanie when she says they can't change. Just because a criminal supposedly finds God or shows remorse doesn't mean they should be let go but what about the innocent ones. The ones that find God can change to. Once a killer, always a killer is not true. There is self defense and accidental deaths of many sorts. Say you are just talking about a guy who kills a three year old for no reason. The death sentence may be the best thing that a victims family wants to see but it doesn't mean the man can't change. Execution is the easy way out but many people can change if they are given a second chance. I wouldn't want to give them a second chance but put yourself in their shoes. If you hit somebody because you were driving drunk, your telling me that your going to do it again. I don't know, I had to comment and I thought this was something interesting to talk about.

I chose my global topic from the newspaper this week. The Tampa Tribune had an interesting article in the Nation/World section of the newspaper. The article was called "New Supreme Court Session To Tackle Abortion, Race Cases." The article introduced new cases that the Supreme Court will have to handle. These cases are the most difficult because social issues are being pushed by conservatives but previous cases are causing problems. Previous court cases have been ruled creating precedents. These are decisions that the judges don't want to overrule because of the rule called stare decisis. Ruling over a previous decision could cause problems in future cases that use these precedents. These rulings are being carefully watch because new judges don't want to change decisions without having factual evidence to back the decision. Stenberg v. Carhart was a case that ruled against procedures and that it lacked an exception to a mother's health. With this ruling, Congress issued an official "finding" hat no procedure was medically beneficial. Basically, all of this is saying that abortion is allowed but if there are factual findings, they can rule against abortions and the previous precedents and cases. They will also have to tackle race issues again. Race-conscious public school assignments will be heard for the second time. It will be interesting to see how the Supreme Court rules against such sensitive issues.

Alright.. What i gathered from the news report and some online articles was that the babies were premature, one weighed about 1 pound and was like 3 months old and some of the others were just a few weeks premature and getting stronger and healthier. What happened was a pharmacy technician had stocked heperin at 10,000 units per ml instead of hep-lock at 10 units per ml. All that i really know about the drugs is that heparin thins the blood and helps prevent blood clots and heplock flushes iv lines to keep them flowing. Anyway, they didn't do any autopsies on the babies but they figured they died of internal bleeding. i guess in order for the nurses to get the medications they have to put in their code and the patients code to open the cabinet once they get what they need it closes immediately so they don't grab a bunck of different things at once. So the hospital tried a little to prevent things like this from happening but it still failed. Really, what can anyone make to prevent human error. The hospital now is makiing two nurses check the drug before they administer it to a patient in peds. intensive care and are also trying to construct another safetyguard using barcodes.
So what do you think, do hospitals do enough? Are the the thousands of errors preventable or inevitable? Is it the way hospitals are run or the way doctors and nurses are taught? I really can't say, but it's very scary especailly since i may be a nurse someday.

Please check my blog if you are having any problems with blogger.

After reading mels blog on criminal execution i can't help but think about all the sex offenders just in our area. According to the United States Department of Justice there are at least 147 registered sex offenders that share my zip code. These are just the ones that have been caught, and have complied with there court ordered registration. I am sure there are plenty of offenders that have yet to be caught and there are some that have escaped the registry. honestly , i believe that the first place you have to really be looking for someone that might harm your child is in you own surroundings. You must screen anyone you associate with. Especially if you are singel and are searching for someone to help you raise your children. Too many times you see that a boyfriend or an acquaintance of the mother is the one responsible for a poor child having something so bad happen to them. Sometimes i can't help think that the mother may have been suspicious but put herself before her children. It may sound harsh especially since it is such a delicate subject but i can't help thinking that a lot of the innocence stolen from children may have been prevented. First of all since i was a child i was told in most cases the child is abused by a relative. So mothers and fathers always keep an eye peeled. Don't put anything past anyone, not when it comes to the safety of your children. Secondly, always ask your children how they feel around certain people like teachers and such. Also don't let them do things alone even if it's a "safe neighborhood." Take all the extra precautions. There is no way of escaping the world we live in, so we must do what little we can and try our best to protect our children.

The short story I read was "A Rose For Emily." From the title i thought this was going to be a completely different story, but i did take into consideration who told me to read it. Now i don't know Mel very much at all, but from the little time we have spoken i kind of knew to expect something a little odd at least. Next i read the introduction about the author, and then i really thought i would like this story. i figured it would be about a mother losing a son. a Family going through hard times, things like that. So when i read the story it was not what i expected at all. I really didn't like the story to be completely honest. Not because of the story itself but because of the way it was written. I just thought it could have been a really good story if it had just stuck to the "real" story. I felt it didn't need to go on and on about the taxes. it didn't need to go on and on about the father. NOne of that really mattered, to me anyway. Just the main story would have been nice. Another thing that messed me up was having read the stuff about the author and about the story, i kept assuming things and messing up the story for myself. The story was okay but in my opinion could have been better.

Ok, this is a comment on mels criminal execution blog. I completely agree with an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Actually, I feel the same way about someone believing they have the right to this or that ( like being free or even having to having all kinds of fun stuff in the slammer) when they have committed crimes that take something away from another, whether it be a car, money, innocence, or a life. They deserve nothing!! Much less freedom!! When they do get freed, what they're really getting is the freedom to commit the same crime all over again.

This week I have decided to expand my thoughts on this blogging assignment. I don't know if it is me, or the web site in itself, but I have had nothing but horror, trying to use it. First it took 3 invitations to finally get on the site, long enough to do more than log in. Now when I attempt to publish a new post, I have finally arrived at the site, but god only knows how I did.
I have tried numerous ways, and finally got here.
Does anyone else have a problem with this site, or is it just me, the computer illiterate fool?
Please let me know, as I am very frustrated with this as always.
I have been able to at least post responses and one posting finally on the poem from last weeks assignment. Execution of criminals. My personal opinion is that though taking a life of another can not replace or erase the crime that has occurred, but that is the only way, that justice can truly be served. Who really are we protecting the innocent or the criminal. We hear it and see it every day, criminals being put back out on the streets, due to prison over crowding. Do we honestly think that a GPS ankle bracelet and cell phone, is going to stop these sick minded individuals from commiting yet another crime. Murderers, sexual offenders, drug dealers, and more. The only ones getting any satisfaction are those being allowed to run loose on the streets. How can a person even think they deserve to be free when they take a life or property from someone. I believe in "AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH." How about you?

"The Love Song of J. He appears to be telling a woman to go with him into the night, its ok we can visit, in the room with other women, talking of Michelangelo. As though he is looking down from heaven. Seeing the streets half-deserted, yellow smoke on the window-panes, lingered upon the pools that stand in the drains. He appears to be reflecting on lifes past, "Indeed there will be time to wonder, do I dare?" , go back in time. He identifies his dress, as being dressed nicely, but others will comment on his hair being thined out, and his body not that of what it used to be.
What is this yellow smoke? It's rubbing on the window panes, and liks its tongue into the corners of the evening?
I truly did not understand the concept of the poem. From what I understand, it’s a poem about this guy that loves this woman, but doesn’t want to get out and go for it, because he’s afraid he’s going to get turned down. So instead, he just stays quiet. Then after all of this, he looks back and wonders if he made the right decision.. I especially enjoyed the constant reminders of Michelangelo and Shakespeare, those parts kept me interested. But all in all I think this poem didn’t stick with me for the matter of I didn’t really understand it all too much.. But it was good to stretch out beyond my norm and try a new form. I did enjoy it.

Do you know anyone in a gang? Honestly, I don’t. And I wouldn’t mind if it stayed that way. I really don’t know personally what life is really like out on the streets. I have never even had a friend that could tell me about it. I feel fortunate for that. I believe the reason for it is because I grew up in Wisconsin. Not like Milwaukee, WI, but like “that 70’s show” , WI. Where gangs don’t happen.
Now I’m grown and I am raising my children close to a city that according to the Tampa Tribune has 54 gangs, but only a handful of members in each one. “Only a handful of members”, that’s crazy to me that anyone would make it seem as though it’s a small amount. Or maybe a small problem. I am scared sometimes that oneday I will make the wrong person mad and get a whole gang after me. But mostly I worry that one day my kids will be asked or tempted to join a gang. Hopefully I will do a good enough job raising them that It won’t happen. Now I feel that I should not write about something I have not seen or was affected by personally. So I will just throw some facts out there.
Gangs are notorious for being involved in a variety of acts that are not as innocent as just hanging out. The following are activities you may find a typical gang or gang member involved in are:
Grand Theft Auto
Auto and Residential Burglaries
Criminal Mischief (Vandalism Graffiti)
Weapon Possessions
Drug Sales and/or Use
Loitering In Neighborhoods and Around Businesses
Violent crimes, such as battery, aggravated battery and even murder, are always possibilities when confrontation ensue between rival gangs. (http://www.hcso.tampa.fl.us/SOD/gangs.htm)
According to the Florida Gang Investigators Association (FGIA), there are over two dozens youth gangs operating in the Tampa Bay area. Some of these gangs are "sets" sponsored by national gang alliances ('Folk Nation' or 'People Nation'), while others are grass-roots gangs indigenous to Tampa Bay.
Some of the youth gangs active in Hillsborough (http://www.safetampabay.org/tampacrime/tampagang.html)
• Bad Boys • Black Hawks• Black Gangster Disciples• Folk Nation• Grand Theft Auto• Latin Connection • Latin Creators• Latin Kings• Young Folk

Do you know anyone in a gang?

I just read that 3 brothers from Texas will be shipped to Iraq in one month. The one where you talk about computers and cell phones. We are a society and race of people who thrive on inventions. We are only here because we evolve and create new things. Animals can't think like we do, they only fight to survive physically. We invent things to make life easier and to evolve. In the early 1900's, I'm sure people were the same way with cars. Yes, they helped for transportation but you also have to learn how to drive. This invention is now a leading cause of death in the world. Inventions are only meant to help civilization improve. I agree when you said that cell phones are good for emergencies. The only problem is people can't live without there cell phones now. I didn't have one for two days and I reached for my pocket about 20 times. The only problem with inventions is that we assume they will always be there. What would people do if electricity all of a sudden disappeared. I know I couldn't live without t.v. but we should still be taught the basics of survival. I went of on a tangent but the bottom line is computers are the new thing right now. In the future, it will probably flying cars but for now, the adjustment is to computers and cell phones.

#3 This is one where I am responding to another blog. The blog I am responding to is Mel G on abortion. I agree 100% with what you said. Abortion can be handled in many ways and that it can be argued forever. The only way to settle this argument would be handling each case separately. You can't solve it all at once by saying it can or can't happen. This isn't something you can vote on. Each case should be handled with a lot of care. In my opinion, the only way you should be able to have an abortion is if you are raped or the birth will kill the mother. There should be no other excuses. If you have sex, it's your fault. If you are going to die, then you were here first. If you are any other case and you don't want the baby then you should put it up for adoption. There are plenty of loving and caring families out there who can't have a baby. Why not help them out and not kill your baby.

#2 This is another global issue sort of. Homework in schools. In the Tampa Tribune, there is a section of Nation/World. There was a topic on homework called "Homework Not Worth Headache, Study Shows." Homework has been something that studets have hated from the beginning of time. Most students just copy friends homework or copy from the back of the book. The argument is that homework isn't benefitting students, just keeping them busy. I agree with what the paper says. It talks about homework being repetitive and that there is no correlation between academic achievement and homework. Doing 9 hours of homework doesn't benefit students in my mind. We just do it to finish it unless we are the type that enjoys homework. There is a new study that in grades 2 through 5 where short homework assignments directly related to the test help students do better. In all three areas of school, there should only be so much homework. In elementary school, they should only be given homework on the basics such as reading and writing, anymore is moving too fast. In middle school, the homework should only relate to what is on tests and gradually move them towards preparing for high school. High schoolers then should be given homework that takes maybe an hour at the most. The problem is having an hour of homework in every class. These studies in my eyes, are correct. If teachers would lighten, students would enjoy school and maybe learn to like homework on occasion.

#1 I have to write six of these things so I am going to number them so I don't get them mixed up.
The first thing i want to talk about since I missed it last week is 9/11. It was a five year anniversary of a tragedy that hit us like no other. This day was even worst then December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The death count was over 10,000. This tragedy was felt throughout the country because it was also on t.v. while it was happening. On the other hand, we were united as one on this day. In this time of peril and disbelief, our country came together. Everyone that could help was doing what they could. This event did have negatives to it but there was also a positive side. There was a loss of life that can never be replaced, only mourned. Two of our greatest structures had fallen and our economy was suddenly stopped. Unlike any other country, we turned it all around to make things better than befre. We will have bigger and better buildings that are being constucted. The security has also risen to prevent something like this from ever happeing again. The biggest positive as I said before is that our country became stronger and more united than ever. All races and ethnicities have come together to put it behind us. The country has helped out everyone who was in need just like we did for Hurricane Katrina. Aside from the loss of life, this event could be considered a blessing in disguise. They say everything happens for a reason and the country has shown it by becoming one nation.

All right, I know it’s a touchy subject, but you asked for a global one, so I bring up the subject of abortion. There are so many freaking outlooks on this subject it could make anyone sick. But in some broad spectrums there’s the religious outlook, there’s the moral outlook, and then there’s the ”its your freaking body” outlook. These all bring up great points and fights. You have those that think that abortion is murder, therefore wrong and should not even be thought of as an option… but then you think about the special cases of that one women who is going to die if she goes threw childbirth. What do you do? I mean you cant “sentence” her to death? Can you? Would that be morally wrong? But if you “murdered” the unborn child that would also be seen as wrong what’s one to do.
Then you have the thought that if its not a medical issue, like the example above, then it shouldn’t be allowed, for the simple fact that you could have just “chose to not“ Have sex. Right? it was your choice to do the deed. There for you deal with your repercussions. That’s life. You made your bed, now you sleep in it…. But wait. What about that little 14 year old that is in perfect health, but she was raped, and now the unlucky carrier of an un born child in her very young body. Can you imagine the terror she would be put threw? In 8th grade and pregnant? I don’t even want to think about it, let alone tell her she HAS to have this child, because its immoral to kill something she will be forced to live with every day, something that will be a constant reminder of the thing that scarred her life.
There are so many viewpoints, so many opinions, that this could just go on forever, but I just wanted to throw a topic out there that would be easy to talk about, hell… I didn’t even give you my opinion…

Wow… I finally accomplished the task of getting a “blog” account. Isn’t it just ironic how this world is changing before our eyes?
Now I’m not saying I’m the old and wise women who doesn’t want “Ya’ll young'ins complaining about how ya have to walk because I had to truck 47 miles to school every day… up hill… both ways!”. But in my 19 years of life I have been witness to my fare share of change… for instance the wonderful “computer”. Have I mentioned I hate it?
I remember the days when you could type your essays if you had really bad handwriting, but now, you have to! Well, I'm sorry, I can write something 10 times faster then I can type (for anyone whose ever seen me, you’ll understand, I use the old two finger method).
But seriously, every household has at least one, if not a laptop for all the kids as well.
Phones are getting them, all these pocket P.C.’s and goodness. I just don’t understand it. Who POSSABLY needs a computer at there hands every second of the day??? I understand cell phones, they're there for emergencies and all, I mean, ill admit, I feel lost without mine. But in all honesty, who really needs a flipping computer at all times of the day? I even saw a guy at the football game last week with one out on his lap! Come-on now. This world is getting sad. I guess ill have to adapt one day, but dear god… I don’t want to.
*I apologize if I offended anyone with my blog… I understand that just because I don’t understand something doesn’t make it automatically wrong. But you asked for our feelings and opinions, there for, you have mine. Thank you. *

A couple days ago my 7-year-old son brought home a letter from school stating that cell phones were allowed in school but the school was not responsible for them. My first thoughts were what do kids need cells for. At this age, they don't have after school activities. I can easily see how kids with after school activities would need a phone. To call if practice is done early or cancelled things like that. But to have a phone just because. After thinking about it a bit more i realized that bad things could happen and a child with a cell phone could help save a life or lives of others. So now I am all for cell phones in school. It just isn't time for my son yet.

As much as I did not want to read this poem after the first line or two I finally went ahead and read it. I thought I would hate it and well, I did. I forced my self through every line of this horrible poem. I tried to read it twice to give it a fair shot, but I could not do it. I don't understand one word of it. I started to think it was about a man and women tired of life and wanting to get away. The reason I thought this was because it starts out with a man and a women (or what I assume is a man and women "Let us go then you and I " ( line 1).) And wanting to "go" with lots of indecisions. But as I read on I realized that couldn't be it.
"Licked tongue into the corners of the evening" ( line17) I don't know why that is even there.
So after reading a little mkore i started to think it is just about a man growing old, for obvious reasons. His hair is getting thin and his legs and arms are getting thin. If this poem is about the man getting old, he is not doing so happily. He is asking questions about his life. To me he wonders if he had any impact on anyone. Mostly he wonders if he lived the right life that he was supposed to live.
Then as i read on again i am pretty sure i am way off. Because he starts with would it have been worth it all. Would what have been worth it all. This poem just is too deep for me. I am completely blind to this poem.
I would like to know what it really means.

On Sunday, September 10, 2006, an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude in the Gulf of Mexico had some people in our area shaken, literally. According to the Tampa Tribune, tremors started from 10:56 am and lasted 20 seconds in and around the Tampa area. The center of the earthquake was aproximately 260 miles away from Tampa.
Some poeple felt their apartment buildings shaking. A man even claimed that as he was putting away his groceries, his refriderator started to shake as well as his china.
Some Florida residents were worried that the quake may cause a tsunami. No one really knew what was going on, and with certain events that have happened in the past, things like this, can't be taken lightly. The police departments received many calls from residents looking for answers to the unfamiliar shaking.
I have never heard of an earthquake in Florida before. I think it's just crazy. So many scary things have been happening in terms of the weather. The tsunami in Asia in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina are just a couple of frightful occurances. It's very scary to wonder what might happen next. It is starting to seem as though nothing is impossible anymore.
According to the Tampa Tribune the last time any one in Florida felt earthquake tremors was in 1956, near Tallahassee. Hopefully it will be another 50 years before we feel them again.

Global Happenings....
At 8:46 am tomorrow, we will remember one of the most horrific event that has hit our country. The bombing of the World Trade Centers in NYC, when savage beast took the lives of so many innocent men and women, unknowingly being so viciously attacked. But it didn't end there. They proceeded on, and tried their best to conquer our country. With the most inhumane acts we ever experienced, these savages took down two more planes in the DC area. Thanks to the courage of those who were blindsided, by the direction and acts of a psychotic mad man, our Capital was spared.
Do you recall where you were the morning of September 11, 2001? I can. I recall standing in the middle of 5oth St and Acline Dr, directing traffic for UPS, when a fellow officers approached and told me of the news. The feeling that overcame my body and mind that moment, will never be forgotten. It was most gut tearing feeling of disbelief.
When I finally made it home, I watched the news with disbelief, the tragedy that struck NYC and the rest of our country that day. The replay after replay of such devastation and destruction was unimaginable. I invasion myself atop those same great building, just 3 months prior, thinking that this same thing could occur with my family and I on the observation deck.
In the months that past I found out that the tragedy struck close to home. A family friend lost her son (NYC Police Officer), in the events of the day. In recent months, I have come in contact with several people who who had ties to the loses that day, and some who were spared the lose of loved ones, by just mere chance. A stewardess (Flight 93) whose flight pattern had been changed that day, or family members running late to work. A member of Tampa Fire Rescue lost a brother. These loses hit close to home.
Being a veteran of the US Marines, and being in the profession of Law Enforcement, I could not imagine having to deal with such a tragic event. Could you?
I am thankful to the men and women who protect this great country, allowing me to have the freedom I do. I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN, AND YOU SHOULD BE TOO.
I hope that all of you can find it in your heart at 8:46 am on September 11, 2006, to stop for a moment of silence, and remember those who were lost on that tragic day of September 2001, and those who have since been lost due to the events of that day. I am sure our attackers will be looking at our country in another manner, but that is something we can not change. We can only hope and pray, that the remainder of our service men and women will be returned home safely and unharmed.
Fran Moore

Hello again. How scary is it to hear of an earthquake 260 miles west of the Clearwater coast, measuring 6.0 magnitude, occurring at 1056 am today. Tremors were felt from Clearwater, to Gainesville, to Georgia. We seem to be living on borrowed time, when it comes to natural disasters, and we are not truly devastated.

Now we wait for the aftermath of mother nature. Very SCARY!!!!!!!
